Belated Happy Birthday...

...to Franklin J Buckles, America's oldest living WWI vet, who turned 110 two days ago.

After lying about his age to enlist in 1917, he drove ambulances and motorcycles with Pershing. (I assume the motorbike thing was as a dispatch rider.)

In 1941 he was working in Manila for a shipping company, captured by the Japanese, and spent several years interned.

Two or three years ago there was a Special Event (Amateur Radio) station in his honor, IIRC  it was W1FJB.  I could hear it, but couldn't get through the pile-up.
