The truth

Rob Allen brings it: You’re not voting your way out of this, people
The issue is that managing the social contract still requires effort. A great quote I saw the other day was this
The social contract exists so that everyone doesn't have to squat in the dust holding a spear to protect his woman and his meat all day every day. It does not exist so that the government can take your spear, your meat, and your woman because it knows better what to do with them.
I’d like to extend this to say that it doesn’t exist so that your meat and women can be taken by others to be distributed amongst who they feel are served better. No, the best way to protect yours and your own is to do more than just sit there and point your spear at those who come near you.
It should have become abundantly obvious to anyone with two brain cells to rub together that the problem isn't this party, that party, or the other party, it's the fact that people in power will almost always use what power they have. The exceptions are rare, indeed.

Like the man said, Eternal Vigilance is the price of liberty.

I don't believe the Republic is a lost cause at this point, but it'll take more than just sitting around bitching to fix things.

And the sad fact is that the majority of people are fit for nothing more than slavery; mainly because that's what they desire...so much so that they are perfectly willing to support the "people in power [who] will almost always use what power they have".

Because when someone else is running your life and making your decisions for you, you don't have to make decisions...and accept the consequences of those decisions...for yourself.

You can just do what you're told, and when something goes wrong, you always have someone else to blame.

That has been the normal state of human existence for millennia. This minuscule, less than 200 year failed experiment in liberty is nothing more than a tiny blip in the heartbeat of human history.

We are destined for an existence of the majority of humanity enslaved to an elite few at the top because that's what the vast majority of humanity wants.

People don't want to be free, they want to be taken care of.

The lesson people need to keep in mind is that only they will take care of themselves, and that they are best able to do so when they are free.
So SFC Drang -- what do we do, here in South King County, to restore and preserve the republic?
