It's cold out there!

It's a good day to celebrate the Repeal of Prohibition with a Hot Buttered Rum:
Hot Buttered Rum Batter No. 1
1 lb Brown sugar
1/2 lb Butter, salted
1 tsp ground Nutmeg
1 tsp ground Cinnamon
1 tsp ground Cloves
1 tsp ground white Cardamom
1 tsp Vanilla
Blend all ingredients in a food processor or mixer and store in the fridge or freezer. To make a drink add a shot of good dark rum along with 1 or 2 tbl spoons of batter to a mug of very hot water. Serve in Irish coffee cup.

If you can find cardamom pods, the cardamom itself will keep almost indefinitely.  Not that we found some cardamom pods in the pantry that predated our marriage or anything...

Note: I have no idea where I found this recipe. If it is copyright, I invite the owner to contact me and I will remove it.

I'm paying the price for being a cold-weather pussy for so many years. Snow is expected down to 1,00 feet and we're at 1,400.
For a really yummy caramel and butterscotch aftertaste rum, try the Stroh's 90, it's a kicker so use in moderation.

White Cardamom...

Is it thenwhole pod ground or just the seeds in the pod?

I do Indian cooking and there is a difference so I wanted to double check here. Some Indian recipies call for whole green cardamom, while others you need to extract the seeds beforehand to get the taste you want for example while you want to simmer the whole seedpod while cooking and remove, or at least be aware, thepod is in it while eating so you can reject eating it whole.

You add ground seeds to the recipe. The first time I made this, we had some whole pods that were rather old, but the seeds inside were still good. If you use cardamom enough, then you probably don't need to stash some posd in the pantry.

And, yes, Stroh rum is some pretty powerful stuff.
