Warnings for Seattle and Vicinity, Washington | Weather Underground

Excessive Heat Warning
Statement as of 5:19 AM PDT on June 27, 2015

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 5 am PDT Sunday...

* timing... this afternoon through Saturday night.

* Locations... the greater Puget Sound region from Snohomish   County southward and the southwest interior. This includes
Everett...  Seattle... Bellevue... Bremerton... Tacoma...    Puyallup...  Enumclaw... Olympia... and Chehalis.

* Temperatures... high temperatures this afternoon will reach the  mid 80s to mid 90s... and then will not drop below 80 in many
areas until after 9 PM tonight. Today is expected to be the hottest day in this stretch of warm weather. Mid and high level
clouds will move over the area later today which would slow the rate of cooling tonight. Temperatures in some areas may not
drop below 70 until nearly 3 am Sunday morning.

* Impacts... during hot weather it is important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. If you are more susceptible to
the heat... stay inside in air conditioned areas. Avoid leaving children and pets unattended in cars... as temperatures inside
parked cars can rise very quickly to deadly levels. Remember to apply sunscreen if you are outdoors.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely.

Take extra precaution if you work or spend time outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work... the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 9 1 1.

Special Statement
Statement as of 5:16 AM PDT on June 27, 2015

... Hot temperatures and the potential for dry lightning will increase the fire danger this weekend...

The hottest temperatures so far this year are expected for the interior western Washington. High temperatures in the upper 80s to mid 90s across greater Puget Sound and other areas inland from the waters could break records. Higher level clouds are expected to increase this afternoon through Sunday night allowing high
temperatures to cool slightly on Sunday but maintain unusually warm overnight lows. Although coastal areas and other areas near large bodies of water will be a little cooler... temperatures in those places will still be well above normal today as well.

Increasing moisture could also trigger thunderstorms across parts of western Washington from this afternoon through Sunday. Thunderstorms will likely develop first over the Cascades late Saturday afternoon or evening... then expand across The Lowlands later Saturday night into Sunday. The low level air mass is expected to remain quite dry through Sunday so little if any rainfall will accompany lightning. Given the dry fuel conditions... any lightning will greatly increase fire danger. By Sunday afternoon and evening... the lower level air mass will moisten with some light rain showers but amounts will not be significant.

During hot weather it is important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. If you are more susceptible to the heat... stay inside in air conditioned areas. Avoid leaving children and pets unattended in cars... as temperatures inside parked cars can rise very quickly to deadly levels. Remember to apply sunscreen if you are outdoors.

To help avoid starting any wildfires... avoid any outdoor burning including tossing any burning materials out of your vehicle. With the Fourth of July Holiday just around the corner... practice safety with your fireworks. Have a bucket of water or a hose nearby in case they are needed. Call 911 if a fire emergency arises. A good
alternative is to visit your local fireworks display rather than use fireworks yourself.

Fire Weather Watch
Statement as of 3:16 PM PDT on June 26, 2015

... Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday evening for the potential of abundant lightning for fire weather zones 649... 650... 651... 653... 654... 655... 656 and 657.
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Fire Weather Watch... which is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.
 * Affected area... fire weather zone 649. Fire weather zone 650. Fire weather zone 651. Fire weather zone 653. Fire weather zone 654. Fire weather zone 655. Fire weather zone 656. Fire weather zone 657.
 * Stability... mid-level Haines 5 or 6 conditions are expected to develop Saturday.
 * Thunderstorms... the threat of dry lightning begins Saturday night. The greatest threat of abundant lightning is later Saturday night into Sunday. Some thunderstorms later Sunday into  Sunday night may have accompanying rainfall... but not expected to be a wetting rainfall.
 * Impacts... atmospheric and dry fuel conditions are creating an  environment that will likely cause any fire starts to spread rapidly. Outdoor burning and use of fireworks is not recommended. In addition... unseasonably warm dry weather is anticipated to extend well into next week especially inland from the immediate coast. The extended warm dry weather may help any fire starts this weekend continue to be quite active.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Monitor for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
