See, you'd have to have been there back in the '60s and '70s when alewives were a plague, and you couldn't walk on a Lake Huron beach and actually be walking on sand (or rocks) for all the dead fish. So the collapse of an invasive species leading to the decline of a transplanted non-native sports fish isn't exactly a lose-lose.

I didn't know that. I just remember how bad it smelled on the beaches...
I was young enough that the memories of tractors pulling some device to clear swathes of sand, and the huge piles of fish, stay with me.
