For anyone not familiar with the various awards on CSM Plumley's uniform, the big one is the Combat Infantry Badge. The two stars on it indicate three awards: WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. His Paratrooper Badge ("Jump Wings") has two Bronze Stars, indicating TWO combat jumps--WWII, and Korea.
Really, Sam Elliot's depiction of CSM Plumley in We Were Soldiers barely even began to show what a true role model for Army NCOs--or leaders of any sort--he was.
Correction to my original comment: CSM Plumley made FOUR combat jumps in TWO wars: Sicily, Normandy, and Eindhoven ("Market Garden") in WWII, and Munsan in Korea.
