Still haven't got our land legs back...
The number of Jap weapons is easy to explain. The Navy guys had access to alcohol and wanted souvenirs. The Marines had lots of battlefield debris to trade for booze.
True, plus there were a lot more amphibious landings in the Pacific Theater, and so a lot more UDT activity.
