Two White House Petitions

National Reciprocity for the Nation's 17 Million Concealed Handgun Permit Holders! | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government

Right now at 8,901, and
Needs 91,909 signatures by August 17, 2017 to get a response from the White House

Also: Repeal the NFA | We the People: Your Voice in Our Government

267,451 signed. At this point, no idea whether it had enough signatures by the deadline, which was in February, to get any attention.

Of course, the SHARE act, if passed, will gut NFA '34 anyway.

As has been par for the course since this WhiteHouse.Gov petition thing has started, many or most of the things listed are silly, pointless, puerile, hyper-partisan.

The Afghan Girls Robotics team was allowed to come to the USA to compete, but the petitions (two, at least) are still there.
Charlie Gard and his parents re coming to America in hopes that an experimental treatment will work. (Either way, see the National Health Death Panel in action! See the Americans give the National Health Death Panel the finger!)
"Make Trump take a MENSA-monitered IQ test"? smh

Interview with local gun 'riter in... Forbes?

If 'Democracy Dies In Darkness,' Dave Workman Will Light A Torch With Gunpowder

Much truth here. The author obviously got to know Dave pretty well...
In the 1940's, Central Casting would have called Workman an “atmosphere” character for any newspaper newsroom scene. Today they wouldn’t even let his mustache in the door.

Workman is the type who only trips into a lyrical line out of sheer bluntness. He is after facts, not prose that paints a pretty picture or a witty line that would impress Maureen Dowd. After President Donald Trump’s speech before Congress, Workman wrote that a few Democrat’s “gave [Trump] a ‘thumbs down’ like privileged Romans motioned for the death of a gladiator at the Colosseum.” With Workman, even if you disagree with his conclusions, you always get the feeling he is trying to boil out the perfidy.

And so it begins...

A White House.gov petition to Repeal the National Firearms Act of 1934.

That's... pretty good.

Not a big one for speeches, but President Trump's inaugural was a pretty good one.
Remarks of President Donald J.  Trump – As Prepared for Delivery
Inaugural Address
Friday, January 20, 2017
Washington, D.C.

As Prepared for Delivery –

Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you.

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people.

Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come.

We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent.

Today’s ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one Administration to another, or from one party to another – but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the American People.

For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.

Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth.

Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed.

The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.

Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

That all changes – starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.

It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.

This is your day. This is your celebration.

And this, the United States of America, is your country.

What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.

January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.

The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.

Everyone is listening to you now.

You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement the likes of which the world has never seen before.

At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction: that a nation exists to serve its citizens.

Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves.

These are the just and reasonable demands of a righteous public.

But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We are one nation – and their pain is our pain.  Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success.  We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny.

The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.

For many decades, we’ve enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry;

Subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military;

We've defended other nation’s borders while refusing to defend our own;

And spent trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

We’ve made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has disappeared over the horizon.

One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions upon millions of American workers left behind.

The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed across the entire world.

But that is the past. And now we are looking only to the future.

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power.

From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land.

From this moment on, it’s going to be America First.

Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.

We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs.  Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.

I will fight for you with every breath in my body – and I will never, ever let you down.

America will start winning again, winning like never before.

We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders.  We will bring back our wealth.  And we will bring back our dreams.

We will build new roads, and highways, and bridges, and airports, and tunnels, and railways all across our wonderful nation.

We will get our people off of welfare and back to work – rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.

We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American.

We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world – but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.

We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to follow.

We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones – and unite the civilized world against Radical Islamic Terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.

At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.

When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.

The Bible tells us, “how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.”

We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.

When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.

There should be no fear – we are protected, and we will always be protected.

We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we are protected by God.

Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger.

In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving.

We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action – constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.

The time for empty talk is over.

Now arrives the hour of action.

Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done.  No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America.

We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.

We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the Earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow.

A new national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions.

It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American Flag.

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator.

So to all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, and from ocean to ocean, hear these words:

You will never be ignored again.

Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams, will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

Together, We Will Make America Strong Again.

We Will Make America Wealthy Again.

We Will Make America Proud Again.

We Will Make America Safe Again.

And, Yes, Together, We Will Make America Great Again. Thank you, God Bless You, And God Bless America.

I mean, if you can't appreciate that our new President just gave both fingers to the political establishment and "deep state", to their faces, while simultaneously mooning them, well, I just don't know. I'm  not one to wantonly fling accusations of UnAmerican around, but you should probably go watch some YouTube videos of Bald Eagles soaring.

Only In America...

...Would a newly sworn in Chief Executive be criticized for giving an inaugural speech that was "nationalistic".

Odds & Ends

  • New rule: No gun stores the weekend before a Presidential Election.
    • Addendum to new rule: Especially if a Shooting Legend is going to be there.
    • So I guess I'll pass on meeting Jerry Miculek  for this year.
  •  WA went to 100% mail-in ballots. King County sets up drop-off boxes around the county; I dropped mine off on the way to not meet Jerry Miculek.
    • The only debate, for me, is whether this is more or less subject to fraud than electronic ballots.
    • {Rant about voter fraud/posthumous voting/no ID required deleted}
  • Among items on the ballot is an initiative for "extreme protective orders" which would lead to anonymous callers having one's guns confiscated "temporarily".
    • This thing is written so poorly that the ACLU has taken a stand on a gun control
  • Always fun  to see the political parties claimed by th denizens of Seattle.
    • The "Revolution and Liberation Party" is a new one on me.
    • Sad the see the Karmic Flying party has disappeared.
    • Sort of.
  • Started a new position in The Salt Mines this week, my first desk job in ages.
    • When they brought me on, passing mention was made to emergency planning, mostly in the context of amateur radio...
    • One week in, and yesterday they dropped all emergency planning in the state in my lap.
    • I have a week to revise everything.
    • I can barely remember how to get to the new office; IT still hasn't granted me access to all the web sites I'm supposed to use.
  • Go home, State of Washington, you're drunk:

Check the date!

You know how all the Trumpites are losing their shit at this story?: Colorado Republicans cancel presidential vote at 2016 caucus - The Denver Post

Check the original publication date: Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015.

Nearly eight months ago.

Don't recall what the polling looked like back then, but not spending money on caucusing so late in the primary season that it normally wouldn't have an impact on results probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

(Washington's  caucuses are done, but our primary is in May.)

(Since they have not adjusted to the fact that I retired over 15 years ago, my "military ballot" is already in the mail arrived today.)

(Minor update to fix wording, to match actual meaning, and update per the daily mail...)

Thought For The Day, 03/03/2016

If you're unfamiliar with the term, read up on it here: Know Nothing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Native American Party, renamed in 1855 as the American Party, and commonly known as the Know Nothing movement, was an American political party that operated on a national basis during the mid-1850s.
The movement arose in response to an influx of migrants, and promised to "purify" American politics by limiting or ending the influence of Irish Catholics and other immigrants, thus reflecting nativist and anti-Catholic sentiment. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, whom they saw as hostile to republican values, and as being controlled by the Pope in Rome. Mainly active from 1854 to 1856, the movement strove to curb immigration and naturalization, but met with little success.
And as Abraham Lincoln is my witness, I wrote that before I read this: Will this year be an 1860 moment? No such luck | Power Line

GOAL Post 2016-1

The first GOAL Post of the New Year. Joe sent this out on Friday, but I was still (literally) At Sea, and am just now getting to it.
As usual, a few minor changes made to formatting for the sake of the blog. The list of old bills still "in play" is quite long, alas. With so many Washington State specific items, this GOAL Post does not address Federal/Obama issues.)

Legislative Update from Olympia8 January 2016

·         LEGISLATURE CONVENES MONDAY, 13 JANUARY
·         LEGISLATIVE TUTORIAL
·         POTENTIAL IMPACT OF ELECTION YEAR
·         34 BILLS HELD OVER FROM 2015 SESSION
·         NEW PRE-FILED BILLS
·         NO PUBLIC HEARINGS SCHEDULED YET
·         LEGISLATIVE CALENDAR
·         LEGISLATOR DIRECT TELEPHONE NUMBERS

(Note: There’s a lot going on with regard to the President’s “gun violence initiative. “Few details are available at this time. But GOAL Post has an Olympia focus and will not cover the other Washington.)

The second regular session of the 64th (biennial) Washington state legislature convenes Monday, January 11th for its short (60 day) session. Control of the legislature remains split, with Democrats controlling the House of Representatives with 50 seats, while the minority Republicans have 48. From a gun owner’s perspective, this view is skewed by the fact that a small handful of Democrats side solidly with gun owners on those issues. While we would have the votes necessary to pass good or block bad bills, House Democrats still control leadership positions in that chamber, and thus control which bills get votes. The Senate remains controlled by a Majority Coalition of 25 Republicans and one Democrat. From a standpoint of stopping bad bills, we should be all right, but it will be difficult to move pro-gun legislation forward.

Legislation 101.For those of you not familiar with how the legislative process works, this page has links to several quick tutorials, including how a bill becomes a law, how to read a bill, where to access bill language and how to testify in public hearings: http://leg.wa.gov/legislature/Pages/ComingToTheLegislature.aspx

2016 is a major election year. To a limited degree, that might influence how elected officials vote on controversial issues. They’ll certainly be paying more attention to public opinion than in non-election years. Your calls, e-mails and letters DO MATTER. It’s called “grassroots lobbying.”

As this is the second year of the biennium, bills that were filed last year and not passed by the legislature remain available for Consideration. 34 firearm-related bills, good and bad, from 2015 are still in the hopper (see list below). In addition, four additional gun-related bills were pre-filed before the session started (at the end of the list below)

At this point, three days before the start of the session, no public hearings have been scheduled on any firearm-related bills.

One of the first items of business in each session is the adoption of the session calendar, identifying dates by which bills must clear various hurdles. A bill that fails to clear the policy committee or chamber floor by the designated date is generally considered dead for the year, although they may be “resurrected” by parliamentary procedure. I’ll post the cut-off dates for the 2014 session in the next issue of GOAL Post.

The Democrat caucus has extended its reach from urban and suburban areas to rural areas. In these districts, the enthusiasm for gun control is diluted. If the Democrats expect to hold these rural districts in the next election, they will have to tread carefully on the gun issue. If you live in a rural or even suburban district with Democrat Representatives or a Democrat Senator, it is important that you call their office and express concern about your gun rights. Ask them to keep you informed of any gun-related legislation. This lets them know that you are watching them on this issue.

The Legislature has not yet published new telephone and office directories because legislators are not sworn in until Monday, 11 January. The following links can be used at that time to identify direct contact information:

QOTD, 08/11/15

...as much as democrats like to think that they’re all about tolerance, there is something incredibly emasculating about watching your candidate get chased off the podium of his own rally. There’s a reason the Black Lives Matter protestors haven’t invaded Hillary’s space, because we all suspect she’d shriek “GUARDS! SEIZE THEM!” super villain style, and then have them devoured by her nanotech enhanced attack weasels. {Emphasis added, DWD}

This explains why I don't trust the man...

Instapundit » Blog Archive »
ROGER SIMON ON WHY TRUMP WOULD BE A DISASTER AT FOREIGN AFFAIRS:
Here’s how I would imagine they would handle Trump. They would love him to death, treat him like the king of the world, the genius at deal-making, ask him for advice on everything from golf courses to hospital maintenance,  and if he got suspicious, love him even more, say great things about how rich he is, what a wonderful plane he has, ask for a tour, get pictures with him for People and Der Spiegel… then, after he feels like he’s been just the perfect president and has settled everything, that’s maybe six months,  snatch the Baltic states (Russia), explode your bomb (Iran), move in on practically everything west of Honolulu (China) and look the other way when ISIS blows up three shopping malls in Dallas.
What would Donald do about it? Say “You’re fired”? Brag about his money? I’m not optimistic.
Maybe if he was running as a Democrat, which what he was registered as until 2009. Which, oddly, is when he claims he gave up on Republicans. Huh?
