WA Governor proves he learned nothing

One might think that one of the few democratic governors left these days might have learned from  the 2016 election that now is not the time to double down on Democratic party big-money causes.

Nope.

Courtesy of Shift WA we learn that Governor Inslee has decided that Olympia is coming up a little short. $8.7 Billion short.

But that's OK, he has a plan...

That graphic neatly summarizes what Shift WA calls Governor Inlee's Lumps of Coal for WA:
  1. A lump of Inslee coal in your stocking: A “bold” budget to fund bigger gov’t. A 21% increase...
  2. Lump #2 of Inslee coal in your stocking: A new state income tax Proposals for an income tax always play so well here...
  3. Lump #3 of Inslee coal in your stocking: A BIG gas/carbon tax We voted down a carbon tax last November. This one was even designed to partially offset our high sales tax. So what does Jay want to do? Of course!
  4. Inslee’s Lump of Coal #4: Let’s sock it to small businesses This one is a "Gross Receipts tax", not a tax on profit, so it will literally tax some businesses out of business...
  5. Jay’s lump of coal #5: Tax the foreigners (from Canada)! People from out of state are exempt from the state's high sales tax. He wants to end that.which costs businesses business.

(edited to add) RELATED: Washington has what’s the nation’s most regressive state and local tax structure.

Friedman and Hayek laugh -- or maybe sob uncontrollably

Debate Over Minimum Wage Hike Is Obscured By Myths - Investors.com
Most people who earn the minimum wage or slightly more are the only earners in their households and therefore are poor, right?
And so, if the federal government or state governments raise the minimum wage, that will be a nicely targeted way of helping poor people, right?
Well, no. Wrong on both counts. Most workers earning at or close to the minimum wage are not the sole earners in a household, and most of them are not in poor households.
Minimum Wage jobs are usually held by students or semi-retired folks, often part time.  Minimum Wage is not meant to be a living wage, and if (for example) MacDonalds were to pay all it's employees a "living wage" the Dollar Menu would be replaced by the Sawbuck Menu.

Has Obama announced quartering of soldiers yet?
I never would have thought that one could pack so much trenchant wit into 140 characters, but Iowahawk consistently delivers...

Y'know, if it was just the one scandal... Just Fast and Furious, just the GM/Chrysler buyouts, just Benghazi, just the utter failue at Hurricane Sandy, just the whole green industry boondoggle, just the AP witch-hunt, just the IRS Tea Party witch hunt...
I'm trying real hard to make those last two make sense, or at least sound remotely Constitutional, but... I got nuthin'.
Except this:

Protest the IRS!

Tea Party Patriots: Rein in the IRS - Tuesday, May 21 @ Noon
Ever since the IRS scandal broke, we have heard numerous stories from around the country about Tea Party, 9/12, Patriot groups, and even individuals who feel they were unfairly targeted by the IRS. This type of abuse cannot be tolerated and so we are calling for nationwide protests tomorrow, May 21, 2013 at 12pm noon at local IRS offices. We'd like to give a hat tip to groups in Cincinnati who began planning the first IRS protest - due to the Cincinnati IRS location being outed as the division that was heading up the discrimination tactics. We are extremely excited that so many around the country are joining in solidarity. Will you stand with us tomorrow? Click to find the location nearest you.
You can access a page with all of the information at the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund website.
You can also download the tool kit here:

Focus on the Reason to Protest Tomorrow
As tomorrow nears, it is important for us to stay focused on the message. With everything that is going on - Benghazi, Amnesty, DOJ/AP scandal, IRS scandal - it is easy to try to point to specifics. What all of this shows us is that BIG GOVERNMENT policies do not work. Dana Loesch wrote an excellent piece on this today at RedState. Click to read the post.

Thanks again for all of your support.

I'll be working, alas, and nowhere near an IRS office, nor able to "get away" at Noon. I hope we can get enough nationwide to make an impression.

Honestly, this targeting of political opponents by government agencies is egregious enough that OFA, the Purple People Beaters, and #Occupy should be participating, too.

But I bet they don't.

IRS Delenda Est

In addition to the flagrant politicization of the processing of tax exemptions for organizations --"OFA?  Right away!  Tea Party?  Come back in a decade!" -- we now have this:
Disabled Veterans Have Checks Stolen By IRS : Freedom Outpost

All I can say is that it is rapidly coming to this:

Senator Rand Paul:
The Tea Party, I always say, is more like the American Revolution, and Occupy Wall Street is more the French Revolution.

Fine, I'll wear the Wookie Suit

Following a link Tam put up in comments--which, BTW, got NPR all over my netbook, so if I suddenly find links to the Huffer Post, Kostipation.com, or Hopey-Chanegy.com, I know who to blame--I took the "Which Presidential Candidate" quiz.

93% Ron Paul, what a shock.  91% Gary Johnson.  Mittens was somewhere in the 80s.  I dunno who Jimmy McMillan or Virgil Goode are, but they scored higher than His Imperial Majesty, who only broke 50% because of "science issues", which seems odd, considering that's where the globull warmening question was...

The real question

Is he offended by libertarianism, or that he might actually (finally) lose?

Sen. Orrin Hatch "doggone offended" by "radical libertarians," threatens to punch them (us) in the mouth. - Hit & Run : Reason.com

Apparently, he's picked up enough of The Chicago Way to think he can threaten everyone into voting for him...

Message from the Seattle Tea Party

Seattle Tea Party Patriots

The University of Washington Library is opening an exhibit on social movements in Seattle and they would like to include the tea party movement! This is great opportunity because our movement will be included in the history and our story will be told by us, instead of our opposition. If you attended the very first rally ("Porkulus") on President's Day, February 16, 2009, or the second protest on February 27, 2009 at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle, please contact me if you have any of the following:
*Photos
*Rally signs
*Costume pieces (i.e. pig noses, Uncle Sam hats, etc.)

See this description from the UW Library of what they are looking for:
"Photos are great -- most of what we have up in the other cases are photos (laying flat on shelves, sometimes scattered in piles scrapbook-style), posters, books (which we can prop up slightly on stands), and artifacts. Costume pieces (YES, pig noses!), buttons, signs, etc. are good. This will form a lively companion piece to some of the WTO stuff on display, which includes one of the now-infamous Sea Tortoise costumes. We can also take screen shots of videos and use "pull quotes" from online articles."

If you have any of these items and you are willing to share them for the purpose of this exhibit, please email me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! They are on a very, very tight deadline for this project, so we need to turn all items in ASAP. Please email keli at keli@teapartypatriots.org and include EXHIBIT in the subject line so that she is sure to see the email right away!!

Thank you so much!!

What's up with this?

Co-worker was giving me crap about Limbaugh calling that Georgetown activist a "slut" the other day.  Apparently he just assumed that I am a loyal listener--not so.

He walked away when I asked him when I was going to start hearing progressives apologize for the way they talk about Sarah Palin and her family, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter (whom I actually can't stand), Dana Laesch, Mary Katherine Hamm, Kelli Carender, and Tea Partiers in general...

QOTD, 02/15/12

WILLIAMSON'S FIRST LAW: THE MORE EAGER A GROUP IS TO INVOKE GHANDI, THE LESS IT DESERVES THE COMPARISON. IF IT DESERVES THE COMPARISON, THAT WILL COME FROM AN OUTSIDE AGENCY.
"Mad" Mike Williamson

Discussing a panel on the topic of Occupy Wall Street vs The Tea Party.  Predictably, the Aoccutard contingent--Cory Doctorow--trotted out a comparison to Ghandi.

Actually, you get two QOTD's for the price of one, to wit:
A friend of mine raised the question of what to do in Chicago when both G8 and NATO are there in May this year. Well, I propose a popcorn concession for spectators, and possibly a hardhat rental for the participants. All I can say is, whoever set that schedule up is a comedic genius.

On This Date in History...

The ORIGINAL Tea Party!

Boston Tea Party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is interesting to note that smuggled tea cost more than tea imported legally, with duties paid on it, yet the colonists were willing to pay the higher price.

It is also interesting to note that the Wikipedia article cited above does  not actually make any reference to the modern Tea Party Movement...
