Recipes

For those who can't stand to drink absinthe using the traditional method, here's a recipe, from El Gaucho restaurant in Belevue:
HONEYSUCKLE WITH ABSINTHE
10 cane rum, lucid absinthe, lime, honey syrup
OK, so it's not so much a recipe as a shopping list.  As I recall, it was pretty good.  I only had the one, so my memory of the event is pretty clear...

Here are some others.  Most seem to be for shock value.

Also, Top 5 Absinthe Cocktails at Epicurious.com.  Some of these are traditional, including one from "Papa" Hemingway, called, of course, "Death in the Afternoon".

More: Cocktails, Absinthe Preparation, Absinthe Cocktails.  This page suggests that the Death in the Afternoon was never intentionally drunk by Hemingway, as both the absinthe and the champagne would be "ruined... which would have annoyed him."   Sounds like Toulouse-Lautrec's "Earthquake" would also only be drunk on a dare, by someone who has already had too much...
