Bullying and Self-Defense

Previously I gave you a link to LawDog's rant on the subject of self-defense.

Officer Dog (I'm sorry, I can't bring myself to use the title "Deputy") has posted earlier on the subject, notably here.

However, I put it to you that self-defence is not only a right, but it is a duty. Indeed, it is my opinion that a citizen of a community or society is obliged to defend themselves from unlawful immediate uses of force against their persons.

And some hand-to-hand advice here.

Mrs. Drang was familiar with the song, I had never heard of the artist, Miranda Lambert, as I am in the middle of one of my Country Western Is Too Commercial For Me phases. (There's also far less chatter on the local Classical station...)

Alas, a scenario in which the victim of abuse goes home and loads (let alone uses) the shotgun to ensure there is no next-time when the critter comes back, as he almost inevitably will, is all too unlikely. She will, instead, swear out a TRO, and then remove it when the Friends of Critter start calling her. Then she will do another one. Then she will lift that one. Et cetera, ad nauseum, until she is in the hospital with broken bones and ruptured organs and he is nowhere to be found--most likely, looking for his new punching bag.

Be not afraid of any man
No matter what his size
When danger threatens, call on me
And I will equalize.

But it is true. Ban guns--all guns, most guns, some guns--and the bigger, stronger, more ruthless person wins. Every time.

Beat up a woman, beat up a smaller kid, abuse the other, the different, the one who looks or acts or talks weird... And all too often the ones who should be stopping it will respond by shrugging and saying there's nothing they can do, and all to often implying that it is somehow their fault. "You must be doing something to make them mad at you, D.W." "She enticed them into raping her."

You know, the gun rights community has a saying that

Gun Control is the belief that a woman who has killed her assailant in self-defense is morally inferior to a woman lying dead, raped, in an alley strangled with her own panties.

And it has become almost trite that rape is not about sex, it is about control, as is bullying.

And bullying is just terrorism writ small.
