Meanwhile, Quote Of The Day gave me this today:
Coincidence? Perhaps...The place where optimism most flourishes is the lunatic asylum.
Havelock Ellis
English psychologist (1859 - 1939)
The Washington State Concealed Carry email list's token radical was stopping shy of gloating, although he was certainly making no attempt to be non-partisan: "I hope you enjoy the same hell we've been through the last 8 years, etc., etc., ad nauseum."
As Roberta sez, I have no intention of being a good sport. Letters to congresscritters and the White House, not to mention newspapers and broadcast media stations, are only the start. I actually had no intention of blogging mostly about politics; it is frankly the President-Elect's fault I had to Go There. One more crime to lay at his feet, although probably the least of them: I hate politics.
In this household we're already Life Members of the National Rifle Association. So. Note to self: Whatever money is left over from stocking up on no-doubt soon-to-be-endangered full capacity magazines, ammo, etc. to go as donations to the NRA Institute For Legislative Action, and the NRA Political Victory Fund.
Except that some of this money should also go to the following worthy organizations:
- Jews For The Preservation Of Firearms Ownership
- Second Amendment Sisters
- Pink Pistols
- Second Amendment Foundation*
- Gun Owners of America**
- Citizen's Committee For The Right To Keep And Bear Arms***
(While there are certainly vocal Native-American, African-American and Hispanic gun-rights supporters, if there are organizations specifically for Native American, African-American or Hispanic gun owners, I am not aware of them. If you know, please post in comments or e-mail me.
(Similarly, I happen to know that the "non-traditional spiritual community"--commonly referred to as "Pagans"--has many members who enthusiastically support the Right To Keep And Bear Arms. After all, there are many parts of the world where "witches" are still being burned today. Unfortunately, to infer that, because it can be referred to as a "community" means it must be organized, would be misguided. I am pretty sure that there is no "Pagan Pistols", or one of the several arms-bearing pagans I know--many of whom are veterans, by the way--would have mentioned it. One hopes that they can at least organize a letter writing campaign...)
*SAF's publication Women and Guns is very possibly the finest shooting magazine out there.
**While the NRA is the "500 Pound Gorilla" of gun rights-- credited by the Left with far more influence than it really possesses--the NRA can be likened to a well-trained German Shepherd, where the GOA is more of a pit bull, at least in the sense that the GOA is likely to go after issues the NRA may "let lie", as being not worth the danger of losing.
(That should not be taken as criticism of the NRA. I feel that one of the silliest, not to mention most counter-productive, aspects of the Gun Rights Community is the tendency of some folks to declare, anytime we "lose one", that "We were sold out by NRA!" While at 4,000,000 +/- members the NRA may well be the largest of the special interests represented in Washington DC, if it had that much pull we wouldn't be in this mess.)(How many NRA members mindlessly followed whatever instructions their Shop Steward gave them...?)
***CCRKBA is actually SAF's sister organization.
Finally:
