The Communications Academy is open to anyone with an interest in emergency communications, volunteer or professional. The presentations are designed to promote the development of knowledgeable, skilled emergency communicators who will support their local communities during a disaster or emergency response.
They're doing the Portable Radio Contest again this year. (See last year's post: Photos from the Communications Academy)
Here are session lists for Saturday and Sunday.
So far as I can tell this event is unique. I don't want to think so, I want to believe hams in other parts of the country--countries, we get many hams with "V" calls*--do something similar, but I haven't seen it.
OTOH, Washington seems to have an incredibly high per capita rate of issuance of amateur radio licenses. Maybe the incredibly high per capita rate of geeks per thousand population has something to do with it...
*Canadians.
