Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness features the extraordinary holdings of American art at the Yale University Gallery. Yale's collection represents a broad panorama of this country's history as no other art museum collection can. With more than 275 objects, the exhibition spans the period from the first European settlements to explorations of the far west and culminates in the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. It features the works of Paul Revere, Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer, covering paintings, prints, photographs and decorative arts. At the center of the exhibition is a group of early American portraits and history paintings by John Trumbull, including The Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.Here is a link to their on-line teaser, John Trumbell's paintings of The Signing Of The Declaration of Independence, and The Resignation of George Washington.
With a renovation of its art gallery underway, Yale is allowing a one-time chance to view works of art that otherwise never travel. This exhibition offers the opportunity to see works that have for so long been textbook examples of our nation's artistic achievements.
