As I sit here, slowly melting...

Was almost late to work today, I made a quick last minute check of Weather Underground, and got distracted by this:

(Apologies for the crappy screen capture. A new "thing" for me.)

All those locations are within about a ten mile radius of Schloss Drang, and the temperatures range from the low 70o's to just under 100o. Remember me talking about the local geography and micro-climates? It affects us in summer as well as winter. None of those reports accurately reflects conditions at our house.

Note what was waiting for me in the Drangmobile:

I don't know how accurate that exterior temperature reading really is. (Note to self: Dig out owner's manual and see if we can calibrate the thing.) When I started the engine, the reading was 109o. By the time I had my cell phone on and ready to take a (crappy, sorry) picture, it had fallen to "only" 101o. As I drove to work, the temp was dropping, down to 95o by the time I was halfway there, but when I parked the car, it had risen back up to 102o.

Note that I did not actually hear anyone at work muse on the topic of Global Warming. Or "Global Climate Change", for that matter. Too bad, I was looking forward to asking them what, if our record heat wave meant Global Warming, the record cold temperatures in Southern California and the Midwest meant.

Meanwhile...

I understand that the morning shift had someone medevaced.

And, our Doubletalk Generators were never intended to operate at above 950 F; at many other locations, they are in a climate controlled facility, but, they thought, why bother, it never gets that hot here...?

We were never completely out of operation, but the contractors were looking pretty nervous...

But now I'm off for three days, during which it will finally get back down to a more reasonable 70o--until the sun comes up.
