RIP...

Rose Friedman

Things I didn't know about Rose Friedman:
  • She started out a Keynesian. (Obviously, she got over it, and Milton loved her anyway.)
  • She attended Reed College. (Obviously, she got over it, and Milton loved her anyway.)
Per Wikipedia,
In 2002 when Milton received his Medal of Freedom President Bush said jokingly in his speech that Rose was known for being the only person to ever have won an argument against her husband.
From the Evergreen Freedom Foundation:
“Two Lucky People.” That’s how Rose and Milton Friedman described themselves in a book they co-authored about their life and work together. With the passing of Rose Friedman today, we have lost them both. And what a tremendous loss!

Rose Friedman was an economist, author and champion of freedom. For 68 years, she was a wife, mother and grandparent—likely one of the only people to legitimately win an argument with her brilliant husband.

To meet her was to come face-to-face with a diminutive person with a giant intellect, good humor and eyes that sparked with passion. Rose joined with her husband in their pursuit of reforming public education so all children, regardless of background, would have excellent educational opportunities.

That’s how we met Milton and Rose Friedman. They stood with us as we fought to weaken the union’s control over education and put education decisions back in the hands of parents and teachers.

We are lucky people to have known them. The Dr.’s Friedman will be sorely missed.
