What if...?

Do you think it has occurred to anyone in the allegedly "most open government ev-ar" to say "Look, we're not responsible for screening procedures in Amsterdam.  And we can't discuss what it takes to get on the 'No-fly' list, but we need more than just one father unhappy with his son going on a spree in London"?  And then maybe even "We are reviewing procedures, but you have to realize that, short of the all-too common jokes about full body cavity searches, there are limits."  Maybe even an observation that, no matter how hard government entities work to keep The People safe, in the end you have to take responsibility for your own safety and security.

I mean, sure, we'd still mock them, but if they could resist the urge to impose stupid security measures just to be seen to do something, no matter how counter-productive, they wouldn't beclown themselves so severely.

EDIT:  The CSM says some of the stupider knee-jerk measures are already going away.

Meanwhile, Iowahawk gives us the Underoo Bomber's perspective.
