What I've Been Saying All Along

Free Will does an excellent job of comparing and contrasting reactions to Hurricane Katrina and the Haitian Earthquake.

In a nutshell:  While the federal response to Katrina was hardly stellar, the main responsibility lies with the municipal, parish, and state governments.

And now the Haitians are apparently irate his Imperial Majesty Barack Hussein Obama has not ridden his unicorn down there and sprinkled fairy dust all over to make the earthquake not have happened.  Or something. The French may or may not be angry with us because we are running the Port-au-Prince airport and not allowing every single aircraft in the Western Hemisphere to use it's one, single, runway.   And, a group of amateur radio operators from the Dominican Republic was evacuated home when a convoy they were in was fired on and one person (not of their party) was killed.  (Hmm, DR shares an island with Haiti, why don't they have these problems?)

Jeeze, Haiti had almost no infrastructure before the earthquake, and  they're PO'd because we didn't swoop in and fix it all in one weekend?

Meanwhile, Tam comments (Faulty math) on reports that HIMBO's buddy Hugo Chavez is accusing the USA of using the earthquake as an excuse to take over in Haiti.  Cuz, you know, there's so much there to take over...

Meanwhile meanwhile, a 6.0 quake in Guatemala.
