More on Olympian Tax Shenanigans

That is, shenanigans involving Washington States' so-called representatives in the state capitol, not Greek gods...

Turns out that the bill(s) in question is (are) m ore of the "ghost" bills we have been plagued with recently, where a bill number will appear on a committee agenda, with no title or purpose, and a "Public Hearing" date and time of "To be Announced."

In this case, it seems that the crooks in charge want to raise our sales taxes now, and then give us the opportunity to lower them this fall, in exchange for imposing a 4.5% income tax "only" on the rich, defined here as earning over $200,000 for individuals, $300,000 for heads of household, or $400,000 for married couples.

Seattle Times article, with poll, currently running 68% against imposing an income tax.

The Evergreen Freedom Foundation is all over this one: here, here, here, here, here...

Sound Politics weighs in, as well:  One, two, three, four.

Text of the bill, h/t Sound Politics.

KOMO says House leaders are doubtful that this will get anywhere.  KOMO's socialist commie commentator Ken Schram says the bill is a sham, but he likes the idea.  The Tacoma News Tribune isn't quite that forthright, but says "there are problems."  KING 5 TV claims they have a survey that supports the idea; they do not share little details like who they surveyed, when, how, whether the subjects were laying drunk in ditches or rioting against higher tuition at universities.  (I'm sure the UW students in this photo would think it was a great idea...)
