First Impressions

For being the oldest in the Hawaiian Islands, Kauai--did I mention we were going to Kauai?  No?  Oops!--is still pretty darned rugged.

Driving up to the timeshare we didn't see as much slow moving traffic, or folks stopping in the middle of the intersection to "talk story", as we had been led to believe.  But, the vacation is still young...
First few pics, all taken with the cell phoine.  Stay tuned for (I hope!) better quality...
The shore looking north from a turn-off for a public beach just north of the Lihue airport.  High surf advisory in effect, didn't seem to deter anyone.

They say the chickens here, crosses between ancient wildfowl and domestics, run wild and cannot tell time, crowing whenever they feel like it...

Kilauea Lighthouse.  The Wildlife Refuge closes at 4, we got there at 315 or so, and wanted to check in, so we'll be back...

Kewl! We heard the story that when Hurricane Iniki blew through and the eye passed directly over Kauaʻi, it freed all the chickens, and now every corner of the Island has them ranging around. We saw them from Hanalei to Poipu to Hanapepe. I'm sure they are even in the Kalalau Valley on the Na Pali Coast...
