It's still stupid, stupid doesn't go out of style very quickly at Google.
Reading reviews earlier today of the new Google Nexus 7" tablet, I think they did that to integrate Google services in the same way that the Kindle Fire is fully integrated with Amazon stuff. Looked at that way, it makes sense, sort of.
