It was such a Big Deal when it came out.
I thought everyone knew the basic story...

It was a good song then, and still is a good song today. And a helluva reason to die... Laundry???
Part f what made it a good sing when I was in high school was that it was somewhat obscure. But there have been plenty of annotated versions over the years.
And I can sympathize with the laundry thing, since few deployments had me anywhere near the laundry facility; as a Light Fighter, it was going to be at least two weeks into WWIII that we had access to one.
And, having been on two cruises with more experienced cruisers (parents, aunt and cousin) it seems that the big milestone for being those who do cruises is having enough days at sea with the same cruise line to qualify for free laundry...
