Town Halls and Other Events

Liberty Belle has schedules for several events, today and through September here. Most significantly, perhaps, is updated info for three co ngressional town halls:

Brian Baird Town Hall
When: Tuesday, August 18th
Time: Meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. but I suggest getting there earlyto get seats and access!
Where: Skyview High School auditorium, 1300 NW 139th St., Vancouver, WA 98685
Info: If every other town hall is an indication, we need our group to be there first, in order to get seats inside and to ask questions. I might suggest getting there a couple hours before it is scheduled to start. Be civil and polite, but strong and firm as well! Website.

Adam Smith Town Hall
When: Tuesday, August 25th
Time: Meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. but I suggest getting there earlyto get seats and access!
Where: Lakewood City Council Chambers, 6000 Main St., Lakewood, WA 98499
Info: If every other town hall is an indication, we need our group to be there first, in order to get seats inside and to ask questions. I might suggest getting there a couple hours before it is scheduled to start. Be civil and polite, but strong and firm as well! His website states that they are NOT taking any more RSVP's - they are fully booked (whatever that means...), but show up anyway!! Website.

Cathy McMorris-Rodgers Town Hall
When: Thursday, August 27th
Time: Meeting starts at 3:00 p.m. but I suggest getting there earlyto get seats and access!

Congresswoman McMorrris Rodgers is GOP, and shows every sign of "getting it" as much as any currently sitting, but still should not get a "pass". (She has delivered the official GOP position on at least one occasion, so I would not be surprised if the O-Bots act at her event they way they accuse is of acting at theirs...)

Congressman Rick Larsen's "Town Hall" yesterday apparently filled Everett Aquasox stadium--estrimates are running somewhere between 2400-3000 in attendance. (An eyewitness report posted at AR15.com said it looked like there were more "Anti-ObamaCare" than for, but admitted that he might be biased against.) The Seattle Slimes had a report on it, and small photo gallery. (You'd think the whole pre-printed, mass-produced signage for the bussed-in "grass roots" thing would cause some sort of cognitive dissonance, but noooooo...)

IMHO the money quote in the Seattle Times article was this:

As staffers roved the stadium with a microphone, audience members challenged Larsen to cite an example of an efficient government program (Medicare, he replied)

although that was in close competiton with

Linnae Riesen, communications director for Service Employees International Union 1199 NW, which represents 22,000 health-care workers and others in Washington, contends that part of the blame lies with conservatives and others who are "fearmongers spreading lies."

The SEIU are, of course, expert at fear-mongering, although if you say so to their faces, they'll put you in the hospital...
