Instapundit » Blog Archive » WHAT? “REVOLUTIONARIES” JUST APPARATCHIKS’ TOOLS? SAY IT AIN’T SO!Seriously, speaking as someone who was studying terrorism before terrorism was, er, cool, this is only "news" in the sense that the fact that Stalin gave Kim Il Sung the go-ahead to invade South Korea was news when the Kremlin released the archives: Something everyone but the most ardent commie knew was confirmed.
Baader-Meinhof terrorist may have worked for the Stasi. From “fight the power” to “fight for the power.” Of course, he only lost his media protection when he shifted rightward. . . .

Kind of like when the Venona transcripts were released and we found out that McCarthy may have been an ass, but he was right?
The sad thing is that while you are right that it was something that all 'but the most ardent commie knew' -- it was also something that only a small fraction of Americans knew. Or faced up to. Or would admit. Or maybe I've just been living too much in the wrong towns (aah, that blessed year and a half in Colorado Springs, off the Boulder/Eugene/Seattle/Patchouli Oil reservation...).

Our year and a half in ColoSpgs was not so idyllic, due in equal parts to my having a chain of command I was battling daily, Mrs. Drang's inability to find work above minimum wage levels, and the altitude causing her health problems.
