Where's my tinfoil?!

Just got a thick envelope from the VA.

They want me to sign up for something called MVP:  The Million Veteran Program, "a national, voluntary research program conducted by the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research & Development."

How are they going to do this?  Why, by collecting blood and genetic samples...

Let the Government collect blood samples for genetic sampling and research?  Yeah, that doesn't make me paranoid at all...

UPDATE:  Joe helps ramp up the paranoia...

They already have mine. All military personnel had to give a cheek swab and blood sample for genetic patterning in '94 or '95. It was so that identification of remains in any future war would be easier.

Not sure what the motivation would be for collecting samples of veterans would be other than "wouldn't it be neat if we could......".

OK, so it's supposed to be to compare genetic makeup against conditions and effectiveness of care, etc. That could be helpful, but yeah, not going to give it to the .gov. Looks like it's only for people who use the VA medical system.

As a retiree I'm "eligible to..." whether I use the VA system or not.

That'd be "not."

I think I'd take a pass on that. I only like to share bodily fluids with someone I trust.

But they leave you with a brand new microchip implant under your skin, so you win in the end :)

Yeah, I'd skip out on that one.
